Hékate (2023)

Instrumentation:

solo piano

Duration: ca. 9'

Hékate, in Greek mythology, is a mysterious and powerful deity associated with magic, witchcraft, night, the moon, crossroads, and boundaries. She is depicted as a triple figure, often with three heads or three forms: a young maiden carrying a torch, a mature woman in her prime, and a wise old crone holding a key, symbolizing her dominion over gates and passages. Hékate was worshiped both in ancient Greece and Rome, and her influence spanned throughout history, being considered a guide in moments of transition and change. Practitioners of magic and followers of mysteries invoked her to seek protection and wisdom in the secrets of the universe.

Indeed, we are currently in a time of change and transition: climate change, technological advancements, and migration crises remind us that the only constants in the world are change and movement. In this work, Hékate serves as a metaphor for the fear of the unknown and as a reminder of the need to adapt to a world that is changing ever more rapidly.
