Divided Realities reflects on the multiple ways we interpret a shared historical or social event, and how our political positions, psychological frameworks, and social context shape this perception. These differing perspectives can lead to a fractured sense of reality, where contrasting narratives coexist without resolution.
Musically, this idea is explored through the juxtaposition of materials that share related motifs and melodic contours, yet diverge in their harmonic language and timbral identity. These materials remain interconnected through processes of temporal transformation: metric modulations enable one idea to evolve into another while preserving a sense of continuity.

Divided Realities was commissioned by the ArtZenter Institute and was written for the San Francisco Contemporary Players
